For Directors

Welcome Directors! 

Below are the top three things you need to be familiar with immediately:

  •  the festival Rules and Regulations
  •  the Forms for registering your ensemble(s) and 
  • the Fees for participation.

We hope to make your experience at the Golden Horseshoe Music Festival as positive as possible for you and your students.

1. Rules and Regulations, Classes

Directors are encouraged to review the festival Rules and Regulations every year as important revisions are common. Please also check the Performance Class which applies to your ensemble.

2. Registration Forms

You can fill out all the required registration forms online! A registration confirmation will be emailed to you by the automated system. Please double check your date and time carefully.

3. Fees and OBA Membership 

There is a $325 registration fee for each ensemble participating in the GHMF. An invoice will be emailed to you within 2 days of your online registration.

As an official festival of the Ontario Band Association, membership to the OBA is required by the participating director from the school.   

An annual teacher membership is $55 and can be paid alongside your ensemble(s) registration.

* Please note, if you are registering more than one ensemble in the festival, please only choose the “add OBA membership” option once/alongside your first ensemble’s online application form. For more information about the OBA’s membership benefits, please visit the OBA’s main website.

EXAMPLES: 

  • If you are not currently an OBA teacher-member and you are bringing one ensemble, your total will be $380 ($325 band plus $55 membership)
  • If you are not currently an OBA teacher-member and you are bringing THREE ensembles, your total will be $1030  ($325 x 3 = $975 bands plus $55 membership = $1030)

Payment is due within 30 days of invoice date. Your requested date and time will be held for you for 30 days. If we do not receive prompt payment, your time slot(s) will be released and made available to other groups. Once we receive payment, you will be sent a confirmation indicating all the participation details for your ensemble(s).  This will include specific times for arrival, warm-up, performance and workshop.

Payment may be made by cheque, or by credit card over the phone after the time of registration.

CREDIT CARD: Please choose the credit card option on the online registration form, and you will be contacted by phone by an OBA representative to process your payment.

Refunds will be issued in the following situations only:

  • If the cancellation is due to the teachers’ federation/union to which the director belongs having ordered that teacher involvement in extra-curricular groups be discontinued in the school’s board (ie federation-mandated work to rule in your panel and your board);
  • if the cancellation is due to the teachers’ federation to which the director belongs having ordered a work stoppage in the school’s board (ie federation-mandated strike in your panel and your board);
  • if the Golden Horseshoe Music Festival is cancelled.

***Please note, if there is inclement weather and your board cancels activities and bussing (but the HWDSB is still open) we will not be able to issue a refund. We will do our best to reschedule you if there are times available and/or accommodate a video submission for adjudication at a later date.
